that evening i ended the job.
told not to come back.
job. working in a call centre offering test drives of VW cars to select customers.
dead easy the system was easy the office relaxed it was great and i was looking forward to working again.
their reason for not employing me further.
i appeared disintrested in the job.
all they had me doing was sitting with a member of staff and watching her all day. they didn't even let me on the phone.
then again it was an office filled with women and one man.
the other two women starting with me got to go back and continue.
but disinterested me.
maybe something else will turn up.
K9 would be my choice
course was great made two knifes one saddle back seax and a atham type dagger. although the dagger need lots of work to finish of.
got there on first thing so we went to do heat treatment which you slap of the special clay stuff. and they put it a special gas burner over tills its orange hot the test with a magnet to see if its ready. let it cool down then repeat the heating.
when real plung the blade in to vat of oil to quench it and leave to cool
then heat tempering in a normal oven as 190 for one hour cooled and half an hour more
then once cold it time to sharpen and polish again with grinder which is called a flexi belt grider and finally even finner grade of sand paper and the srapening cloth like what old barbers use.
seax done yeah.
while the first blade was tempering in the oven i started the second blade. however part was through the grinding i had to reheat the blade to straighten out a twist and found out that although the blade maybe cool the tang takes longer and i ended up burning my finger and thumb
which left me with small but painful blisters and a hand in a bucket of water for a hour or so. thus stopping me from doing any more work on my second blade.
bright side at least it was late of the last day of the course amd not first thing.
for anyone think of doing this course go for it it great fun. and i want to go do the the other courses next year
start off no diffiuclty in finding the site, owen is friendly and his dog is great auzzy sheepdog looks like sammy if she was willow with currly fur that will make sence to those who know both dogs.
on to the smithing played with both gas and coke fired forges hammered out my blade shape with lots of help and intruction from owen. then lunch.
after lunch and our blades had cooled down enough to handle we started grinding the edge and tang. this took a couple of hours with the power grinder.
then it was on to fine grinding with a workbench and a file. and finally sandpaper and block to remove the grinding and filing marks.
tommorow its heat treating and polish and sharpening then some free time practice with junk metal to refine our skills with the hammer and anvil
will post pictures of blade once i have got home and its finished.
i'm tired and hungry and yet awake and can not sleep cause of the location
maybe tommorow will bring a better day
i was filling in a application for a job this evening and i got to the box regarding date of birth
now next to the box for the DOB was a short message which i read as the follow.
this is important to fill in if you are 21 or undead
sometimes i like my brian and sometime it goes on holiday

i don't get ticked off to often but that story has upset me reguardless of your own oppinons of the wars/ peacekepping operations call them what you will. its not right that the solider in question is being held responsible.
it just stinks of cover up of another pilot error and friendly fire blue on blue action by the americans.
one of hte last signal messages i got to hand around durring my time in Iraq read something along these lines.
warning when approaching american check points to all UK forces take extra care as there has been an increase in blue on blue actions at this time.
the rest of the message told us to slow down so they could identify our landrovers and trucks. i know ground forces see with their eyes but pilots see with alot more hightech gadgets than us ground pounders if half the documenters are to belived. after case in point bristish army warrior fighting transport was shot up by US aircraft and that had a huge union jake flying from it and was in open country.
but enough i rated feel better
as of yesterday i is back to hords of unemployed.
Tony my boss called me in the office at 4pm and told me that the business could no longer support me nothing i'd done just he had to cut cost and i was the easiest to let go.
he said he should have done it 3 weeks ago but couldn't bring himself to it.
so onward to better thing i guess get a temo job then something full time once we move.
then look to learn a new trade.
as carol has said dover was interesting.
they had roman cavalry and chariots. as well as artillery. and high winds very high winds.
it felt like every hour we were putting a tent back up, jonny spent most of the time hammering tent pegs back in the ground.
i learnt to make nets which is fun in high winds.
our box tent got destroyed when it was lifted off the ground and sent cartwheeling around the road. just missing sarah. but then sarah and laurie both where inside tents when they were blown over..
see carols post about tent for picture
had a great time for my first gladiatorial show, everyone was friendly and helpful. I spent half an hour listening to Dan talk to the general public about the equipment on the table absorb as much s i could then just jumped in to help out explaining the kit to the general public. Still have so much to learn if i plan to do it again. Mostly pronouncing the names of the gladiator types. But then there is still even more to know so i don’t get caught out but someone in the gathered MOPs.
Loved taking part in the show as Carron, the outfit is hard to move in but i guess it add to menace the character is meant to give out. The show itself was spectacular, i enjoyed both watching and taking part, it will be a long time before i feel i could go in the circle and fight. I’m a little over confident on the day but after watching the couples duel i can see it will take practice. My hat if i wore one goes off to the skill of the guys and gals out there .
As to the fun and games with the location and its staff. Some of them and this is to those that could speak English didn’t even have clue where anything was. When i arrive on the Saturday they sent me to the far end of the event when i asked about the gladiator show. Took me an hour to find the castle mound. But then i’ll know better if there’s an event next year.
